My Bethany Life - Week 20

Week 20

Second week of classes done!

Monday—I did homework and cooked a nice red lentil cauliflower curry for the PPRS potluck that evening. The PPRS potluck was fun, but the funny thing about it was there were multiple curries and rice-based dishes along with chicken. So, obviously we did not communicate to each other who would bring what. On the plus side, we were very like-minded!

Tuesday—At Intro to Theological Reflection, we discussed the role of revelation and the authority of Scripture. However, most of the conversation revolved around the canon of Scripture, which was a fun discussion.

At Theopoetics and Preaching, we focused on learning about the context of preaching and by that, I mean who are we preaching to, where are we preaching, what is happening in society etc.

Wednesday—First chapel of the semester happened and my Theopoetics 1 professor preached. I also saw my friend online who I haven’t seen since last year. The rest of the day I spent working on homework and work-study projects.

Thursday—The snowstorm hit so I was online for today. At Theopoetics 1, we continued our discussion on Amos Wilder where we learned more about his biography and influences. We then started shifting the conversation to Rubem Alves.

Friday—I had a report meeting during the afternoon with my professor who I am a research assistant for. After reporting my work for the week, we talked about class and the reading on the authority of Scripture. (This professor is my Intro to Theological Reflection professor). We discussed that the Bible is not a puzzle to be solved and how it’s not a problem to overcome. This mindset plagues a lot of people and as I digested this conversation, I realized that I think this way sometimes while I read the Bible. Instead, I should be open to the power of life and liberation the Scriptures contain and testify to and let them transform me. So, some neat introspection occurred.

Saturday—I worked on schoolwork, and my other roommate returned from Florida! So, it was nice seeing him as I haven’t seen him since last year.

Sunday—I rested. My mother also came down and visited which was nice. I then played DND with my friends and had Bible study to cap the evening.

During this week, I started to reach out to friends and family members as it is part of my New Year’s theme. It has been going well, I’d say—a little awkward but that’s how it goes.

Prayers and thoughts are always appreciated for me as I continue my journey in higher education! Thank you for reading and have a blessed day!

It was great chatting with you yesterday! I've noticed I haven't been reaching out to friends as much lately and you are inspiring me to be more intentional about it 😊
